Gestational Surrogate Requirements

At The Stork's Nest, we believe that our gestational surrogate screening and requirements offer the intended parents, and gestational surrogates, the best opportunity for a safe and successful journey. To accomplish this, The Stork's Nest requires that the gestational surrogates meet certain criteria.

Gestational Surrogates Must Meet The Following Requirements:

  • Is between the ages of 23 and 44 years.
  • Has delivered at least one child of her own.
  • Is raising/have fully raised the child that she delivered as her own.
  • Has not had any complications in a previous pregnancy.
  • Lives in a stable household where nobody smokes, uses drugs, or abuses alcohol (including herself).
  • Does not live in Michigan.
  • Has not smoked in over 2 years, and has no history of repeated or chronic drug use.
  • Is not dependent on alcohol and is willing to abstain use throughout any resulting surrogacy pregnancy.
  • Is single, divorced, married, or widowed, but is not separated from her husband.
  • Has no criminal history (including her Husband/Partner).
  • Is neither significantly overweight nor underweight for her height.
  • Has a valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and car insurance.
  • Has health insurance. The Stork’s Nest will have the policy reviewed for any surrogacy exclusions and gestational surrogates will not be required to do this themselves.
  • Is free of STD’s/STI’s and other transmittable diseases.
  • Has access to prior obstetrical (OB/GYN) medical records and will share this information when needed during the assessment for eligibility and matching process.
  • Is not, or anyone in her household are not, a recipient of any state or federal financial assistance (welfare, housing assistance, food stamps, WIC, etc).
  • Has not received psychiatric treatment for a serious mental illness.
  • Has not, and Husband/Partner (if applicable) has not, been in a substance abuse program.
  • Has never been denied as a surrogate by a physician, fertility center, or other surrogacy agency.
  • If accepted into the program, she agrees to maintain permanent residence in her current state until after delivery of the surrogate child(ren).
